PINTURA HORIZONTAL / HORIZONTAL PAINTING
MUSEO DE LOS PINTORES OAXAQUEÑOS (MUPO) – OAXACA, MEXICO
Solo Exhibition
The Horizontal Painting exhibition project was developed specifically for the MUPO (Museum of Oaxacan Painters), based on the results of the residency held at La Curtiduría - Centro de Artes Visuales. It was a way of reflecting on the condition of Painting in contemporary art, particularly in Oaxaca, which is an important center of pictorial production in Mexico. Presenting Horizontal Painting in the Museum of Oaxacan Painters was an opportunity to rethink and reflect on the meaning of painting as an object, as a space, as a process and finally as an action.
The exhibition took place in the context of the social unrest caused by the 2010 presidential elections, with the result that the centre of Oaxaca City and therefore access to the MUPO was partially blocked. In response to participating in this movement, some public interventions were made as part of the exhibition, thus expanding the museum's exhibition space into public space.
