MATRIA :  SUMMER - SOLSTICE OF WATER

MURGUÍA 102, OAXACA, MEXICO

Site-specific Installation

In 2013, the project Matria jardín arterapéutico was established in an old building in the center of Oaxaca, a space coordinated by the artist Mauricio Cervantes and curated by Pablo J. Rico. The intervention was planned as a geological-archaeological excavation seeking to reach point 0, from unveiling the stratigraphic layers of the site. The process was carried out using a rural construction technique native to Oaxaca through soil compaction, so that the column of earth is the same volume as the excavation carried out. The work consisted of the column and the excavation, remained exposed for a year , in which it grew seeds contained in the soil. Once the exhibition time was over, the column was destroyed and the earth returned to its place of origin.
